Maf:Starfleet Battles is the first game of a series being published by Mafgames that takes place in a different galaxy from the Milky Way, (Snickers). Maf:Starfleet Battles covers the era of the transition of the planet Maf from a planet with solely ground-based nations to a true star spanning empire.

Players will have the opportunity to design, build and sell any product or service available in the game. Everything in the game can be designed, built and sold by players to other players or to NPCs. Anticipated income is loosely based on the type of License a player buys. The higher priced the License, the more income the player is potentially expected to receive. Nothing is guaranteed, players make money by selling or leasing the items they produce to other players. Banks and casinos make money from their normal course of operations. Income remains a function of how many players choose to bank at that bank or bet at that casino. Players mine and process ore and minerals for resale on the market or direct to other players. A player may build a building (using a Building License) and rent offices or rooms to other players. Players may also design, manufacture and sell or lease weapons, clothes, propulsion systems, ship shielding, livery (ship paint schemes), food, teleporters, anti-gravity systems, etc. If you can imagine it, you can build it and offer it for sale. Some players may choose to build space stations, starports or spaceports and lease space to other players or operate their own exchange market at their facility and charge a tax and/or a fee for every item sold. "If you build it, they will come." This may or may not be true, but if they do, you'll make money.

Players may assume any of the roles available or combine them as a player sees fit. Players are not confined to play in a "role-based" manner; players are free to conduct their game play as they wish. Maf:Starfleet Battles is a procedurally generated online game; elements within the game are generated as players discover them using a simple, but complete, rules-set. Stars, moons, planets, races, buildings, starbases, alien spacecraft, planet surfaces, asteroids, meteors, caves, rifts in space, wormholes, space debris and space derelicts are all generated procedurally as a player travels to and through the area. This data then uploads to the game server which then downloads the newly-generated data to a player the next time they log into the game.

Starport License - Design, build and lease or sell a starport (military facilty), spaceport (civilian facility), space city, manufacturing facility, or any other space-based orbital or interstellar facility as the player may choose. Sell or lease to other players. May build as many as desired. Solar System Builder License- Play God? Pick a location in space and design and create your own solar system. Create your star and add planets, asteroid belts and moons, age advance or age regress your solar system to assess different effects on the central sun(s) and planets. Choose whether or not to add life and/or intelligent life on the planets. Use as your base to build your own starnation or space empire. Must buy separate License for each Solar System. Unlimited number of Building Licenses included. Solar System - Buy an existing Solar System from another player. OR Donate $250 for game development. Must buy a separate License for each new company. Construction Company License - Builds buildings for other players, NPCs (rare) or game. See Building Construction Rates for potential in-game income. Alpha-Round refers to the stage of both funding and development for the game. The game is not anticipated for players to play until the Beta round, or later. Funding will also occur in stages, beginning with Alpha and then moving to Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and continuing as the need may arise. Tiers will not increase. Tiers as established in this Alpha Round will continue throughout the life of the game.

Maf was created in 1972 as a RPG consisting then of just some maps and characters "rolled" up out of common sense with just a handful of players. Over time, the maps grew more detailed and extensive and the character rule set became developed and fixed. The game now consists of over 2,000 pages of rules and 1,500 pages of "background" material including dental hygiene, the physics of Maf (available on Amazon (Hyperspace Calculations)), history and culture of desert caravans, history and development of space-faring nations, planetary ecology and much more.
